Art Supervisor                                                                      

The Art Supervisor will partner with the Copy Supervisor to develop stellar creative for several of the agency’s key accounts. Your primary responsibilities will be to lead the development of all art and design initiatives for your accounts and supervise the art directors on your teams. You will also partner with the account management team to ensure all client needs are being met and deliverables are impactful and on strategy.  The position will require frequent client interaction and presentations. May require some travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Copy Supervisor to turn critical strategic analysis into viable creative concepts.  Demonstrate a level of creative sophistication that exceeds industry standards
  • Establish and champion tone, look and feel of concepts
  • Recommend optimal designs and executions, both digital and print-based for assigned brands for a variety of formats and platforms (advertisements, sales and resource materials)
  • Provide quality control of designs and execution of layout
  • Supervise and mentor art directors
  • Present concepts and promotional materials internally and to clients
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of assigned therapeutic categories, science, competitive set, market dynamics, and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in strategic promotional planning for assigned brands
  • Direct photographers, illustrators, and freelancers as needed
  • Assist creative director(s) with agency work, including new business, as needed.
  • May assist in preparing for and participating in new business presentations

Essential Skills

  • Must possess strong presentation skills, demonstrating thorough understanding of subject matter. Has the ability to persuade based on scientific acumen, a solid grasp of therapeutic category, the brand’s challenges, and the personalities involved
  • Strong mentoring and supervisory skills. Must be a good teacher
  • Mastery of composition techniques (multiple elements and interactive pieces) to produce polished finished pieces, with strong attention to detail
  • In-depth understanding of color theory and color relationships, typographic terms, page composition, current production techniques, photographic process for print and digital
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective direction at photo shoots, effectively check and approve work on press, effectively organize and prepare electronic materials for output, and communicate knowledge of assigned product(s)
  • Must be able to multitask, working quickly and effectively under pressure
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comprehensive computer photo-retouching and imaging development skills
  • Ability to provide insightful and creative interpretation of product research
  • Ability to provide sound analysis of clinical data
  • Superior skills in full Adobe Creative Suite, MAC O/S, MS Office
  • Web-based design tools a plus


  • BA/BS, with coursework emphasis in communication design, advertising, or visual arts
  • 5-7 years professional art direction/design experience, with at least 2 years of pharmaceutical advertising
  • Demonstrated ability to produce creative materials for multi-channel marketing
  • Specialty therapeutic and/or medical device category experience preferred
